Traceability and Quality in D365 F&SCM for Food and Beverage Manufacturers

Microsoft Finance and Supply Chain Management

Dynamics 365 for Finance and Supply Chain Management (F&SCM) can cater to a multitude of businesses in a variety of industries. Quality control functions included in the inventory module are especially beneficial for the Food and Beverage industry.

Batch Control

While many in the industry call it “Lot Control”, F&SCM has a feature called “Batch Control” which will allow manufacturers to assign a batch number to a production order and allow users to trace it through the system. This batch number will tie all raw materials that went into a production order and track exactly what sales orders the production order was shipped on to ensure full, end-to-end traceability.

Additionally, Batch Control can track attributes to batches to enable things such as potency of a product. In the sales process, batches can be selected based on those attributes to ensure customers get the product that they are looking for – all seamlessly integrated in D365.

Traceability

Each inventory transaction in F&SCM is meticulously recorded from the time raw materials are received to the consumption on production orders to the final sales order shipment. With this data, traceability information can be generated both forwards and backwards, providing the ability to act on both customer complaints and trace the production orders and raw materials that went into that item. If there is an issue with a particular production order, users are able to quickly identify which sales orders that batch was shipped on to initiate a recall.

Quality Control

Quality Control in D365 can be defined as the tests that are applied to transactions within F&SCM. These tests can apply anywhere through the supply chain, from inbound trailer inspections to metal detector testing to microbiological of the final product. Using its flexible assignment engine, D365 can create these tests automatically at different stages of the item’s lifecycle, or ad-hoc testing can be used to record the results. These results can then be seamlessly viewed from any transactions or in the traceability lifecycle.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance in F&SCM can be defined as the set of data recorded about transactions to ensure that the highest level of quality can be met. These are also known as non-conformance transactions. Users are able to record diagnoses of problems as well as assign users to correct those problems. Like quality control transactions, these can be viewed during the traceability lifecycle or on the transactions themselves.

In addition to essential quality functions, F&SCM offers a robust set of capabilities that are well suited for the Food and Beverage industry. Read more about those features in our ERP Selection For Food And Beverage Manufacturers article.
